Liverpool fans point out Match of the Day hypocrisy over Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane

Liverpool fans on social media have taken a swipe at Match of the Day after identifying the hypocrisy in comments from pundit Danny Murphy.

The former Liverpool midfielder, along with the Premier League's all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer, were critical of Mohamed Salah and accused him of diving to win a penalty in the 2-1 win against West Ham.

Salah won and scored the equalising penalty against the Hammers, before Diogo Jota struck a late winner to send Jurgen Klopp's side top of the table.

However, while the pundits were critical of Salah, it was far different to previous assessments of incidents involving Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

“Any fan, player, manager, is going to feel aggrieved if that penalty is given against you, irrelevant of who you support," he said after the game against the Hammers.

"The problem we’ve got, which we’ve always had, is that players don’t get penalties if they don’t go down and we’re seeing too often players doing what Salah did there and nobody wants to see it.”

However, Liverpool fans pointed out that this was far different to what Murphy said about Kane following Spurs' 2-1 victory against Brighton on Boxing Day last year.

"I'd like to think I wouldn't go down for that but the point is, I don't think he's cheating. Much ado about nothing."

Plenty took to social media to hammer home that point, as they identified the leeway they feel English players seem to get in these sorts of situations.
