Liverpool fans party into the night after Champions League final win

Liverpool fans took to the streets of Madrid to celebrate the club's Champions League win over Tottenham on Saturday night.

The Reds beat English rivals Spurs 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano to win the competition for the sixth time.

The celebrations started as soon as referee Damir Skomina blew the final whistle to bring the match to a close, while similar scenes were seen across the UK.

Just 16,000 tickets were made available to both Tottenham and Liverpool fans for the 68,000-seat venue, but many thousands more travelled to the Spanish capital ahead of the showpiece and filled the streets to soak up the atmosphere.

According to The Sun , there were an estimated 100,000 supporters in Madrid for the game, while it is claimed that some fans paid up to £10,000 for a ticket for the occasion.

Although there were two fan zones setup in the city ahead of the clash, local authorities made the decision to close them before kickoff.

With hordes of fans in Madrid, those without a ticket descended on various establishments near the stadium with Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson tweeting that he was told that there would be "14,000 bars and restaurants and cafes open with screens."

The build-up to the final wasn't without its issues as Spanish authorities confirmed that some fans were arrested on Friday night. while Tottenham supporters claimed that they were 'battered by police' .

However, it was a perfect end of the season for Liverpool fans, who saw their side narrowly miss out on the Premier League title after finishing second on 97 points - one behind champions Manchester City .

Mohamed Salah converted from the spot to give the Merseyside club an early lead and, although they were not at their best, they were able to keep Spurs at bay thanks to a number of good saves from goalkeeper Alisson.

Semi-final hero Divock Origi was introduced in the 58th minute and added a second in the 87th minute to ensure that the famous trophy would return to Anfield.

Following the game, Klopp made sure to credit the club's fans.
