Liverpool fans are convinced they have missed out on re-signing Philippe Coutinho this summer after Antoine Griezmann's Barcelona number was announced.
The France international joined the Nou Camp giants on Friday in a deal worth £108million, and was tipped to receive the number seven shirt.
Griezmann wore the number seven at Atletico Madrid and it is also the number he sports when playing for the France national team.
The number is occupied by Coutinho at Barcelona, and reports from Spain suggested he could have it taken off him to appease the club's new big-money signing.
Coutinho has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp amid claims the club is considering moving him on.
If he was stripped of his number then the writing would almost certainly be on the wall for the Brazilian.
Fortunately for Coutinho, Griezmann was handed the number 17 shirt - prompting Liverpool fans to acknowledge that their proposed move for the Brazilian ends here.
"Griezmann gets number 17, I guess Coutinho is staying," tweeted on fan, while another added: "They wouldn't be giving Griezmann No. 17 if Coutinho wasn't staying."
A third said: "Griezmann playing in number 17 means Coutinho is staying," and a fourth concluded: "Means Coutinho is staying put."
