Liverpool fans makes midfield point as Jordan Henderson and Thiago missing for Tottenham

Liverpool will be without both Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara when taking on Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost Curtis Jones, Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk ahead of Thursday's win over Newcastle United due to suspected positive coronavirus results and have now lost Thiago under the same circumstances.

Henderson is also missing for the Reds, though his illness is not Covid-related.

Providing an update on the two new absentees, Liverpool released the following club statement: "The midfielder [Thiago] is now isolating and will play no part in the encounter in London.

"In addition, Jordan Henderson is also absent because of illness. The captain has registered a negative test for COVID-19, but has been withdrawn from selection due to feeling unwell.

"All of the Reds’ first-team squad and staff have been tested for COVID-19 on Saturday as well as this morning, with no further positive cases detected, which includes Henderson."

James Milner, Naby Keita and Tyler Morton will now act as the Reds' midfield three, breaking up what has proven to be a highly-effective trio in recent weeks.

Liverpool faced disruption in this area in the pitch earlier this season when Harvey Elliott suffered a serious ankle injury against Leeds United while Thiago missed nine consecutive matches due to a calf issue.

Supporters have now voiced their frustration once again as Klopp's side are dealt a latest blow in the middle of the pitch.

Liverpool will be hoping to secure three points to keep chase with Manchester City, who ran out 4-0 winners over Newcastle United today.

Chelsea dropped points again, however, and the Reds can extend the lead over the Londoners to five points with a win in the capital.
