Liverpool fans love what Virgil van Dijk did before Mohamed Salah goal vs Newcastle

Liverpool fans have learnt to have confidence in Mohamed Salah when he closes in on goal - and it seems Virgil van Dijk feels the same.

Salah struck as the Reds came from behind to beat Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday, slotting home after collecting a sensational back heel flick from Roberto Firmino.

As he glides past an opposing defender, a few seconds before he pulled the trigger, Van Dijk was spotted on the halfway line with his arms aloft and already celebrating.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Van Dijk's early celebrations, showing supreme confidence in the Egyptian ace - and it is not the first time it has happened.

The centre-back previously went viral for the stunt when Salah scored against Porto in last season's Champions League.

He also did the same early celebration before Salah's stunning solo effort against Arsenal in their 3-1 win last month, with his arms aloft several seconds before the ball had left his boot as he dribbled into the Gunners' penalty area.

Fans love Van Dijk's faith in his team-mate, labelling it "brilliant" and "the best thing they've seen in a long time".

Whilst it was Salah's name which went on the scoresheet, it was Firmino's skill which created the goal, leading to praise from Van Dijk in the press after the game.

“He’s a very important player for all of us," Van Dijk told BT Sport about the Brazilian.

“I know how difficult it is for a centre-back if the striker is dropping – you don’t want to go as a central defender. He is making life difficult for any defender in the world.

“He is so good and I’m very happy he’s in my team.”
