Liverpool fans left anxious after Adrian injury as Reds face goalkeeper injury crisis

Andy Lonergan could be in line for his Liverpool and Premier League debut against Southampton on Saturday after a freak injury to Adrian.

Lonergan, who was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, signed for the Reds as experienced cover for the Spanish shot-stopper.

With Alisson Becker sidelined for over a month with a calf injury sustained against Norwich City on the opening day of the season, the ex-Bolton and Fulham stopper was drafted in as Jurgen Klopp's number three.

However, Lonergan's fairytale story has taken another dramatic turn after it emerged that he could be in line for his debut at St Mary's.

Adrian, the hero is Liverpool's midweek Super Cup penalty triumph against Chelsea, could miss the weekend's clash, Klopp has revealed.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: "I don't understand why in the world of social media when we are all together, a supporter jumped over something and kicked [Adrian's] ankle. It is swollen but we have to see.

"Apart from that, it was a brilliant night for him."

So, despite Lonergan's last appearance coming for Rochdale in League One, the 35-year-old could be about to make a sensational top-flight debut, which would be regarded as one of the stories of the season.

On Saturday he could finally achieve that life-long dream, for the reigning European Champions.

That news has caused quite a stir from Liverpool fans on social media, who are fearing the worst.

Here is a look at how they took this morning's news.
