It was announced on Monday evening Kostas Tsimikas had completed a transfer to Liverpool from Olympiacos.
The Greek international was acquired for an initial £11.25m to provide much-needed cover and competition for left-back partner Andy Robertson.
To get a flavour of how news of the signing has been received in Greece - and what fans can expect to see from the 24-year-old - we caught up with Stratos Sakkias from the Official Liverpool Supporters Club in Thessaloniki, the city Tsimikas grew up in.
He gives us his thoughts following the full-back's whirlwind Anfield transfer.
How did you and the other Liverpool supporters in Thessaloniki feel when Kostas started being linked with a move to Liverpool?
We all knew here that Kostas is a fantastic player and can play for any team in the world.
We all had a hope that he would join our beloved Liverpool but it’s a huge gap between transfer rumours and a final agreement.
What was the feeling like when he was officially announced as a Liverpool player?
Very happy! Excited. A Greek lad in the Liverpool team again.
Kostas is only our second Greek player, as Sotirios Kyrgiakos played for Liverpool for two seasons around 10 years ago.
What was the reaction to Kostas signing for the Reds like in Greece? How has the news over there covered it?
It’s a huge transfer for a Greek player so it was everywhere on the news as the main headline.
It does not happen everyday for a player of the Greek league to join the English, European and World Champions with the world’s best manager.
What kind of player can Liverpool expect to see in Tsimikas?
I think Kostas is the left-back that perfectly suits to Liverpool’s playing style.
Also, I have heard that he has a great character and he is very focused on playing good football.
What are his best qualities?
His hard work. His good mentality.
He always tries his best and I think his best attribute on the pitch are the very dangerous crosses he produces.
What will it be like seeing Kostas make his first appearance for Liverpool? How will your supporters club react?
We all expect football to be back, initially on television and hopefully soon we can also visit Anfield to see Kostas live.
