Liverpool fans hjiack Gini Wijnaldum's tweet after PSG debut

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to offer their support to former Red Gini Wijnaldum after the midfielder made his debut for PSG in a 1-0 defeat to Lille in the Trophée des Champions.

The Dutchman was a 71st minute substitute as he replaced Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe in the centre of midfield.

Despite not being on the pitch for long, Wijnaldum was able to produce a shot on target - almost opening his account for his new club.

Sadly, for the former Liverpool man, he couldn't make the desired impact as the Parisians fell to defeat in their first competitive game of the new season.

It was also the first chance to win silverware, with the final competed between the champions of Ligue 1 (Lille) and the winners of the Coupe de France (PSG).

Wijnaldum took to Twitter to apologise for the result to his new fans. He wrote: "Disappointing result, but glad I played my first minutes in the team."

Despite leaving the club, Liverpool fans were quick to offer their support to the former No.5 - telling him to 'keep his head up' amongst other comments.

Wijnaldum left Liverpool this summer at the end of his contract, having played over 200 times for the Reds since joining in 2016.

The response to Wijnaldum's debut in France shows the positive impact that he had on Reds fans, with the vast majority having nothing but respect for the commitment he showed to the club during his time on Merseyside.
