Liverpool fans hijack Jurrien Timber post to share same transfer message

Supporters have hijacked a social media post from Jurrien Timber urging the highly-rated Ajax defender to sign for Liverpool during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Having missed out on Champions League qualification, Jurgen Klopp and his Anfield recruitment team have already made their first move this summer. Alexis Mac Allister became their first new signing on Thursday afternoon and the Reds are expected to follow up that transfer with more high-profile recruits.

Revamping their options in central midfield remains a priority, but there might also be scope in the budget to bring in a versatile defender to provide competition at right-back and centre-back; especially if Trent Alexander-Arnold is deployed more regularly in his innovative hybrid position next season.

Timber is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands team for their Nations League showdown with Croatia. However, that has not prevented Liverpool supporters from switching focus to club matters.

After the 21-year-old uploaded a picture to his Instagram profile, there was a familiar theme in the comments and replies section as they reached out to the Ajax starlet amid mounting speculation on his future. Liverpool and arch rivals Manchester United are among those to have been linked with his signature.

In a short caption, Timber said: "Twins united, conquering as one." Here are a selection of replies to that post;

@ardywr_ said: "Welcome to Anfield."

@kotev_alexandar posted: "Come to Liverpool."

@deltakhappa added: "Welcome to Liverpool."

@hoosam_diab said: "Come to Liverpool to play with your teammates Virgil [van Dijk] and [Cody] Gakpo."

@errzhan8 posted: "Welcome to Liverpool."

@cabdiqadaryusuf added: "Welcome to Liverpool."

During an interview with Dutch publication Ziggo Sport last month, Timber was pressed on his future after making 121 appearances for Ajax as well as winning two Eredivisie titles. He said: "It's the same situation as last season.

"When I say I'm leaving, it has to fit. Important is the style of play and playing minutes. Competing for prizes is also important. My favourite country? I dare not say.

"That's why I'm doing the same as last season. The chance is there, it can happen, but I'm also comfortable here. I'm still young and here everything suits me. I'm going to watch quietly."
