Liverpool fans hijack Barcelona's birthday message for Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho celebrated his 27th birthday on Wednesday and Barcelona took to Twitter to mark the occasion.

Despite winning two La Liga titles in his time at Camp Nou, the Brazilian's time with the club has not gone well with a string of poor performances seeing him fail to win over the Barca fans.

The playmaker has been tipped to leave the club this summer as a result, though his future is unlikely to be resolved until after the Copa America in Brazil.

While Barcelona fans have jeered and whistled Coutinho at times during matches this season, they resisted the urge to post negative replies to Barcelona's birthday tweet despite his lack of success in Spain.

However, Liverpool supporters were quick to hijack the post and wasted no time in reminding their former playmaker of their recent Champions League success in his absence.

Jurgen Klopp famously told Coutinho: “Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour. Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more.”

And fans had those words ringing in their ears when paying tribute to Divock Origi in their replies.

Others focused on celebrating Virgil van Dijk and Alisson , the two players Liverpool effectively bought with the money received for Coutinho.

Coutinho may have left Anfield but there remains a strong Brazilian representation in his absence.
