Liverpool fans haven't forgotten Tammy Abraham as title jibe comes back to haunt him

A jibe directed at Liverpool over five years ago came back to haunt Tammy Abraham as his saved penalty by Adrian handed the Reds the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea.

With the game having finished 2-2 after extra time and all nine of the previous spot-kicks scored by Roberto Firmino , Jorginho, Fabinho , Ross Barkley, Divock Origi , Mason Mount, Trent Alexander-Arnold , Emerson and Mohamed Salah , the responsibility fell on Abraham to send the contest into 'sudden death' but his effort down the middle of the goal was hacked clear by Adrian's foot.

The miss presented Kopites with an opportunity to respond to an online dig a then 16-year-old Abraham had issued in their direction over five years ago.

On May 11 2014 when Manchester City secured the Premier League title at runners-up Liverpool's expense, Abraham, then part of Chelsea's youth team squad, Tweeted: “Sorry Liverpool... So close but so far.”

A run of nine consecutive victories had seen Brendan Rodgers' side installed as odds-on favourites to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time but a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield in their penultimate home match with Demba Ba's opening goal coming after Steven Gerrard's now infamous slip had derailed their hopes.

Three loan spells for Abraham at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa before returning to Stamford Bridge and some 1922 days on, a number of Reds showed no mercy in letting the striker know that they hadn't forgotten his remarks.
