Liverpool fans have Ibrahima Konate transfer theory after Julian Nagelsmann decision

Some Liverpool supporters believe Ibrahima Konate starting on RB Leipzig's bench for their clash with Bayern Munich means a move to Merseyside is close.

Konate is one of five defenders Liverpool are tracking but the club are remaining coy on the speculation.

However, the suggestion that he is among a number of defenders being looked at ahead of the summer transfer window has not been denied by those inside the club.

Konate has struggled with injury problems this season but has been fit for nearly two months now - despite this, he was put on the bench for Leipzig's top-of-the-table clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.

Willi Orban, Dayot Upamecano and Lukas Klostermann made up the back three chosen by Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann, which has left some Liverpool fans with a theory.

There are contrasting views, however, with some suggesting this is because he is moving to Anfield, and others claiming it's because he's not good enough to make the team.

Liverpool are looking for a centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window, given the mass problems they've had with injuries this season.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all likely to miss the rest of the season through injuries which forced the Reds into the January transfer market.

Centre-back duo Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak were brought in from Preston North End and Schalke respectively, with the former yet to make an appearance in the famous red shirt.

But Kabak has been a big part of Klopp's side since joining on loan, as he looks to impress and earn a permanent switch to Anfield once the campaign concludes.
