Liverpool fans hail return of Thiago Alcantara after training pictures

Liverpool fans have hailed the return of Thiago Alcantara to training.

The Spanish midfielder was pictured on the grass at the Reds' training ground on Thursday as he looks to continue recovery from a knee injury sustained in mid-October's Merseyside derby.

It has been a frustrating start to life at Anfield for the summer signing, with just two Reds appearances to his name since his move from Bayern Munich after also testing positive for the coronavirus.

Yet his return to the grass is the latest good news for the Reds, who beat Spurs in a top of the table clash on Wednesday.

Thiago has not featured since October 17 when he was on the receiving end of a red-card challenge from Everton forward Richarlison.

Whilst he was able to see out the remaining minutes of the derby match, his injury was worse than first thought.

Yet the 29-year-old's presence in training indicates he is growing closer and closer to a return to first-team action, which represents a timely Christmas boost to Jurgen Klopp.

The sight of the midfielder on the grass comes just a day after he hinted to fans that he was close to a return to fitness.

Thiago was present during the Reds' win over Spurs and filmed Anfield's rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, which was part of a touching tribute to former manager Gerard Houllier following his death earlier this week.

The midfielder posted the video on Twitter with the caption "Soon from the field #YNWA", indicating he cannot wait to hear fans singing when he returns to fitness.
