Liverpool fans give clear verdict if Man City stripped of Premier League titles

Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League with over 100 alleged breaches of financial regulations.

The fallout from the four-year investigation is set to rumble on for quite some time, but already Liverpool supporters have expressed their views on what should happen if they are found guilty.

City could reportedly face a range of punishments if they are found to have breached financial rules - including 'expulsion' from the top flight.

It is unclear if such punishments would be applied to seasons which have already been completed, if City are found guilty.

However, nearly 2,000 of you responded to our poll on what should happen to the six titles City have won since their first of the Premier League era in the 2011-12 season.

A total of 79% of respondents felt that if City are found guilty then the title should be awarded to the second-placed team.

Just 6% of those who took the survey felt the titles should not be awarded to any team.

And 15% felt City should keep the titles, but with greater sanctions placed on them for the future.

City, for their part, have claimed they were "surprised" by the charges and are supported by a "body of irrefutable evidence".

They said in a statement: "Manchester City is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

"The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."

The initial batch of charges levelled at City from "seasons 2009/10 to 2017/18 inclusive" includes the 2013/14 campaign, which saw Liverpool finish on 84 points - two behind City.

In more recent seasons, Liverpool finished just one point behind their rivals in 2018/19 (97 points to 98) and the same margin behind in 2021/22 (92 points to 93).

If they were to be awarded to the Reds then it would take their tally to 22 league titles.

One thing is for certain, Liverpool fans will be closely monitoring the situation as it develops.
