Liverpool fans fuming with Martin Atkinson again after Roberto Firmino VAR howler

Some Liverpool fans have blasted video assistant referee Martin Atkinson for his failure to award the Reds an equaliser in their Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park this afternoon.

Trailing to Trezeguet’s 21st-minute goal, Jurgen Klopp’s men thought they had drawn level when Roberto Firmino tucked the ball after latching onto a pass from Sadio Mane.

But the goal went to a VAR review and was chalked off for offside by Atkinson , who was manning the VAR at Stockley Park.

However, replays have clearly shown that Firmino was onside and in-line with Villa defender Tyrone Mings when he connected with Mane’s pass.

The decision, unsurprisingly, has led Liverpool supporters into outrage, with replays showing the goal clearly should have stood.

Following the decision, some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to make their displeasure heard, with many pointing out that Atkinson, who waved play on after Divock Origi was fouled in the build-up to Manchester United’s goal against the Reds at Old Trafford almost a fortnight ago, is the man who has denied the Premier League leaders an equaliser.
