Liverpool fans fume with BBC after major 'mistake' following Club World Cup victory

Liverpool fans following the Club World Cup final on the BBC were furious after a major mistake saw the programme end prior to the trophy presentation.

A dramatic clash with Brazilian side Flamengo was finally settled in extra time as Roberto Firmino fired home the only goal of the game, sealing Liverpool's first ever Club World Cup triumph.

However, fans who tuned in to watch to historic moment were left furious as they were unable to watch Jurgen Klopp's side lift the trophy, as the coverage ended prematurely.

The footage cut out midway through an interview with Reds skipper Jordan Henderson, with host Gary Lineker then informing viewers that they had run out of time.

Fans were instructed to switch over to the iPlayer or to watch online for coverage, only to find that the service had crashed as many tried to tune in.

As a result, many fans took to social media to share their frustrations and slammed the BBC, stating that this wouldn't have happened if it was another broadcaster.

A BBC Spokesperson said: “BBC One has a packed and popular Saturday night schedule. Viewers were able to watch the whole of the Liverpool game, including extra time, on BBC One. They were then clearly signposted to BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport Online and the Red Button to watch the trophy ceremony as there was a 20 minute gap planned between the match ending and the ceremony starting.”
