Liverpool fans take aim at Georginio Wijnaldum for role in Arsenal goal

It was Georginio Wijnaldum's turn to experience the wrath of the Liverpool fans after Arsenal took the lead at Anfield on Monday night.

The Holland international started in midfield against the Gunners with new signing Thiago Alcantara out with an injury.

And it's fair to say Wijnaldum didn't impress Reds supporters in the early exchanges, with some tame shots on goal simply squandering possession.

Wijnaldum also played a part in Arsenal taking the lead against the Reds, as he failed to intercept a ball to Alexandre Lacazette, and then failed to follow the Frenchman into the box, providing him with space to score.

Wijnaldum looked set to leave Liverpool in the summer as Thiago was on his way to the club.

The Dutchman was set to go to Barcelona, but the transfer fell through and it now seems that he will remain at Anfield for at least this season.

Some Liverpool fans aren't best pleased with this outcome, with a group pointing out that he was meant to leave as part of 'Project Thiago'.

And these fans have now made their voices heard on social media.

"Project Thiago was supposed to mean Wijnaldum out how is this guy still in my city," tweeted one Liverpool fan, after Arsenal took the lead on Monday.

Another added: "Wijnaldum is going to be the end of this team," while a third said: "Wijnaldum pack your bags it's time."
