Liverpool fans fume over Man City decision after Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane incidents

Plenty of Liverpool fans are all making the same point after Manchester City’s controversial goal against Aston Villa.

Pep Guardiola’s side extended their advantage over Liverpool to four points with a 2-0 win on Wednesday night, thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

The opening goal from Silva caused a stir on social media and the wider footballing world, for an apparent offside in the build-up with Rodri.

A large number of Liverpool fans reacting on social media were unhappy with the decision, and were quick to use Sadio Mane’s disallowed goal against Everton back in October as a reference point.

That strike was ruled out over the finest of margins.

While others pointed to an incident in Italy last night, which saw Cristiano Ronaldo flagged after coming back from an offside position and interfering with play during Juventus' 2-0 cup win over Napoli.

Here is a selection of what they had to say about Man City’s opening goal against Villa.

Mark: “It is shocking, but the PL have said once Mings touches the ball the offside is onside!! You couldn’t make it up! Well, they have....”

Jack: “That was given?! How?!”

Alex Lavery: “Rodri challenged Mings having been in an offside position from the initial pass. Rodri was offside. The goal absolutely shouldn't stand.”

Dan Roach: “What gets me, if that had been Salah or Mane running back from 10 yards offside to hit into the back of the net, it gets ruled out for offside.”

Matt: “Scenes when Liverpool have a last minute winner disallowed tonight as Sadio Mane’s ear was offside 15 minutes earlier.”

Lee Hoey: “What a joke. They draw lines and freeze frame. How can it be a different phase if the offside player steals the ball.”

Richard Ricky Morris: “Joke. Mane few weeks ago was level it was given offside VAR needs to go and go back to the old fashioned advantage to the forwards.”
