Liverpool fans eye new striker target as Kylian Mbappe 'set for Real Madrid'

Liverpool fans have reacted to the latest reports that Kylian Mbappe is set to sign for Real Madrid - and it can be wrapped up as soon as Friday.

The 22-year-old has been at the centre of a transfer saga throughout the summer, due to having only one year left on his PSG contract, and had been tentatively linked to Liverpool.

However, Real Madrid are not prepared to wait for the French striker to sign for free next season and have tabled an offer worth up to €180m, according to Marca .

Having held on to the faint hope that the Reds could have convinced Mbappe to sign as a free agent - albeit very much tongue-in-cheek mostly - Liverpool supporters began to adjust to the news.

At €180m, the World Cup winner would become the second-most expensive player in history, despite the Spanish side having the opportunity to sign a pre-contract agreement with the former Monaco man in January.

Madrid’s long-term interest in Mbappe is well known, having gone against PSG for his signature in 2017, while the forward is also a boyhood fan of the club.

Despite the prospect of lining up alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi, according to the report Mbappe has chosen to join Los Blancos to be the star player under Carlo Ancelotti.

With Liverpool having only splashed out £36m on Ibrahima Konate, the amount demanded by PSG for the striker is way beyond the Reds’ limits, as they look to balance the books.

However, some supporters have already begun to refocus their next generation hopes on Erling Haaland, with the Dortmund goalscorer reported to have a release clause in his contract at the end of the season.
