Liverpool fans could face delays coming home from Porto Champions League match

Liverpool fans travelling back from Porto after tonight's Champions League match could face travel disruptions.

A nationwide strike by truck drivers transporting hazardous goods has led to fuel shortages at Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports, according to reports.

The Portugal News said the 'energy crisis' has seen thousands of motorists queue up at petrol stations sparking a run for fuel.

Lisbon airport is warning passengers that there might be changes to their flights due to the airport fuel supply being disrupted, sparking fears that Liverpool fans may be caught up in the delays.

Truck drivers started a strike after demanding better workers' rights, including an increase in their wages.

How will Liverpool fans in Porto be affected?

The government has confirmed that Lisbon and Porto will be given priority assistance in replenishing fuel stocks.

And according to the Independent , for Liverpool fans going to and from Porto for tonight's Champion’s League match, the most significant impact will be on the roads.

It is believed that Porto airport will have sufficient reserves of fuel to get supporters home.

Liverpool face the Portuguese side tonight in the quarter-final second leg.

The Reds won their home leg 2-0 after goals from Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino.

Should they win tonight's match, Liverpool will progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League to face Catalan giants FC Barcelona.
