Liverpool fans call for David Silva ban for 'kung-fu' Manchester Derby tackle

Manchester City playmaker David Silva could face retrospective action for a shocking challenge on Andreas Pereira.

The Spaniard caught the United midfielder in the ribs with a reckless high challenge.

Silva jumped to win a header in midfield for City before leaving a boot in Pereira's midriff, in a slight kung-fu action.

Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville insisted Silva was lucky not to be punished with referee Andre Marriner having seemingly not spotted the challenge.

That means the FA could hand a retrospective ban to the City star, with Pep Guardiola's men three games away from retaining the title.

Neville said: "Not good from David Silva. I said in the first half, players know what they’re doing, they know when they’re following through.

"And he’s a very lucky boy, David Silva. Andre Marriner sees that, I think it’s a red card.

"He’s been brilliant tonight, that is out of character. Don’t normally see him with kung-fu kicks. Very lucky."

Unsurprisingly, there were calls for Silva to be banned after the dangerous challenge.

Silva's namesake Bernardo opened the scoring for City at Old Trafford with a fine strike that deceived David de Gea.

United had frustrated City during the first half before the Portuguese international fired home.

De Gea was then at fault for City's second as he failed to save from Leroy Sane's low drive.
