Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Liverpool five minutes before the break after a wonderful left-footed pass by Milner from deep put the forward through on goal before he finished with ease.
Liverpool enjoyed the better of the possession in the second half but Leicester levelled the contest in the 80th minute when James Maddison found the back of the net.
But the Reds prevailed thanks to a penalty from Milner in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Mane was brought down by Marc Albrighton in the box.
Milner was naturally one of the Liverpool players to earn an array of praise during the match and afterwards for his two key contributions.
The 33-year-old started the match in the Liverpool midfield alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho and played the entire contest.
