Liverpool fans all say the same thing about Steven Gerrard and Newcastle United job

Steven Gerrard was yesterday linked with the vacant Newcastle United managerial position, but is the former Liverpool captain a suitable candidate to replace Rafael Benitez at St James' Park?

A formal approach is yet to be made by the Magpies, though the 39-year-old is on the club's radar, according to Chronicle Live.

But is this a move Gerrard would be inclined to make?

Last week, Frank Lampard returned to the club where he formed his legend status, and in a similar vein, many believe that Liverpool are the only side Gerrard would consider swapping for Rangers.

There are suggestions Gerrard may have already rejected overtures from Newcastle - and Liverpool supporters are unanimous in their belief that this would be the correct decision for the former Kop icon.

Speaking on the Echo's LFC Facebook page , Bob Ball said: "He'd be nuts to take that.

"He'd be far better off seeing out his contract with Rangers, and building his knowledge and reputation where he is also loved and respected by the fans."

Michael Porret: "Look, I don’t mind Newcastle, but Gerrard is too smart for this one at this point in time.

"Take more time in Scotland and only when the time is right and Klopp wants to move on.

"Then come to Liverpool FC. Easy, YNWA."

Andy Ayre: "No way is he going to any team in the Prem unless its Liverpool."
Jeff Mayers: "Stay where you are Stevie and wait for Klopp's job."

And on Twitter, fans were also of the view that Gerrard should stay put at Rangers:

Gerrard has also offered an update on Rangers' interest in a potential loan deal for Liverpool's Ryan Kent.

Speaking after watching his side beat Oxford 5-0 yesterday, the Rangers boss conceded that a potential resolution to the situation was Liverpool's decision.

Gerrard said: "The only way we’ll have a conversation is if Liverpool phone and say he’s available to go on loan.

“I would be repeating myself if I said that we want him. I’ve made that pretty clear. But that situation is in Liverpool’s hands at the moment.”
