Liverpool fans all say same thing as cut-price Schalke Ozan Kabak offer revealed

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their surprise at Liverpool's decision not to sign former loanee Ozan Kabak on a permanent basis.

Goal.com journalist Neil Jones reported on Wednesday evening that Kabak had been offered to Liverpool for as little as £8.5m.

The Turkish defender joined on a loan deal until the end of the season as the Reds looked to ease their defensive crisis, which saw them lose Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk to long term injuries in a matter of months.

Inserted in Liverpool's initial deal to sign the defender, was a clause that presented Jurgen Klopp and his team with the option to purchase the defender for £18m.

However, due to the emergence of Nat Phillips during the second half of the campaign and the Reds' decision to pursue a deal for Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, Liverpool allowed Kabak to return to Schalke once his loan deal had expired.

And with Jones revealing that Kabak was offered to the Reds for something that is seen as a minuscule fee in today's market, Liverpool fans all seemed to have the same reaction.

Upon his return to Schalke, Kabak - who made 13 appearances for the Reds - penned an emotional farewell, saying: “Dear Liverpool family, I would like to thank you for the compassion and support you have shown towards me since the day I arrived.

"I believe the experience I have gathered during my four-month stay here has been a very important one.

“I have learned a lot from my manager Jürgen Klopp and all my teammates and I was proud to be part of this special family. I will always remember my days here at Liverpool with great happiness and the special song which you have kindly gifted me.

“YNWA,

“Ozan.”
