Liverpool fans all say same thing ahead of Champions League last 16 draw

Liverpool will find out their opponents for the first knockout stage of the Champions League later this morning but there's one team in particular fans are hoping they'll face.

Last Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Salzburg meant the Reds topped their group and have five possible teams they could take on in the next round.

The candidates for Jurgen Klopp's side are Atalanta, who finished runners up of Manchester City's group, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

We asked ECHO readers on Facebook which team they want to face and the response was surprising.

It seems most fans would like the Reds to be drawn against Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid who finished second to French giants PSG.

Most people would see Madrid as one of the harder fixtures Liverpool could get but many supporters would relish a tie against the 13-time winners.

Perhaps fans would like revenge on the Spanish side after they defeated the Reds in the 2018 final. Mohamed Salah was also injured after a challenge from Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and many fans have not forgiven the defender.

Nathan Michael said: "Real Madrid all day long. We can batter them in 2 games. We do owe them after all (especially after Ramos).

Ste Dickinson had similar thoughts, he wrote: "I'd love Real so we cna get some revenge, wouldn't mind Lyon, worst case would be Atletico."

Esiri Grant added: "I want revenge against Ramos - bring on Real Madrid."

While fans would like to see Liverpool take on Real, many would like to avoid the other team in Madrid.

Dave Jackson who wrote: "Don't want Atletico, so anyone but them. But would love Real to exact revenge and shut their cocky manager up has stated they'll eliminate us."

Klopp will be watching the draw from Qatar as he prepares his team for their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey on Wednesday.
