A Liverpool fan who bought a £40 car to get him to the Champions League final in Madrid has
As flight prices rose to £900 in some cases ahead of the European finale, Simon Wilson, from Wrexham, opted to buy an old Škoda Favorit GLXi and drive it for thousands of miles from Merseyside to Madrid.
YouTuber Simon says the journey only cost around £200 in petrol each way and he's even going to keep the car now that he's returned back home.
But his journey to see Liverpool win their sixth European Cup didn't go off without a hitch.
Simon, from Wrexham, said: "I'll be honest, the whole way down to Madrid, I was sceptical that we'd make it. I mean we'd just gotten to Dover for the ferry and a pipe blew off of the engine."
However, the little Škoda pushed on, managing to drive itself onto the ferry, so Simon and his three passengers decided to chance it.
He added: "Simple really, turn the radio up and job's a goodun' right?
"I love Liverpool FC, I've been to all the matches, but there was no way I was gonna pay out £800 for a flight that I could get for £40 next week.
"Yeah, it was a little bit of a long car ride back but I think it only cost us around £200 on petrol each way, so we've got four people to the final for half the price of one person flying over."
Liverpool won the match 2-0 and lifted their sixth European Cup at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium before he drove all the way back home.
Simon added: "One hundred percent, I'd recommend people give it a try. If we make it to Istanbul next year, there'll be something big coming."
But what about the car?
He said: "Oh, I'm keeping the car. It's gonna be the daily runner I reckon. I'll get it done up first though!"
