Liverpool fan pitch invader who stuck two fingers up at Messi will not face police action

A boy who ran onto the pitch and stuck two fingers up at Lionel Messi will not face further action by police or the club.

Liverpool’s players, staff and fans couldn't contain their elation after the Reds beat Barcelona, against all the odds, earning themselves a spot in the Champions League Final .

However cameras at the game picked up one overzealous fan, who invaded the pitch to further rub salt in Barcelona's wounds.

The fan, dressed in a grey LFC tracksuit, is seen running past an already gutted Lionel Messi , and then sticks two fingers up at the Argentinian star, as he walks to the tunnel.

The jubilant fan then flees across the pitch, with a steward hot on his heels.

However despite the invasion on to the pitch Merseyside Police confirmed no arrests were made and the fan will not face further action.

A spokesman for LFC did not wish to make a public comment.

However, the ECHO understands the boy was not a ballboy nor a member of the academy .

The Champions League Final will be an all English affair after Liverpool and Tottenham's amazing semi final matches.

The Reds will meet Tottenham Hotspur on June 1 in Madrid after LFC's astonishing 4-0 second-leg victory over Barcelona followed by Tottenham's incredible comeback against Ajax.

Following Liverpool's win fans were quick to applaud an unsung hero of the match - a ballboy whose quick thinking actions led to the much needed fourth goal.

The teenager quickly and efficiently rolled the ball back into play allowing  Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold  to take the perfect corner and Divock Origi to score unchallenged.

However fans are now facing a scramble for Champions League final tickets after the club were handed an allocation of just 16,613 tickets for the match in Madrid next month.

And  Reds  supporters will have to dig deep into their pockets with more than 75% of the tickets costing at least £154.

Private jet companies are also seeing a surge of demand for travel with thousands trying to get to the  Champions League Final  .

PrivateFly  , which also sent Liverpool fans to Kiev for last year’s Champions League Final, is seeing LFC supporters snap up Barcelona fans’ private jet cancellations.

Liverpool will walk out at the Wanda Metropolitano, hoping to land their sixth Champions League title in the club’s history.
