Liverpool fan in mankini waving flag plunges off ladder after lamp post stunt

This is the moment a mankini-wearing Liverpool fan dangerously falls 10ft from a ladder as he celebrated his club's Premier League title win last night.

The accident happened on Thursday evening as thousands flocked to Anfield and the city centre to revel in the Reds' first title triumph in 30 years.

The fan, clad in a tiny red leotard and green trainers, climbs the rungs until he gets to the top where a Liverpool flag is on top of what appears to be a lamp post.

As onlookers sing "We Are The Champions", he hangs precariously from the ladder, and poses for the crowd, with one arm flung out to the side.

But he loses his grip, and comes crashing down, taking the football flag with him, as women are heard to scream.

The clip, which has been widely shared, led some people to suggest in social media the man was seriously injured, or had even died.

But the ECHO can confirm that is not the case, and the North West Ambulance Service said, although they attended the street in Anfield, he was not badly hurt.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called at 10.15pm to report than a man had fallen off a ladder.

"He was not taken to hospital."

Large crowds gathered at the stadium last night after Chelsea's win against Manchester City confirmed them as comfortable title victors.

Throngs assembled at the ground, and also in the city centre with colourful celebrations seen at the Bombed Out Church and on Seel Street.

Fireworks were set off around the city, and the sound of horns blaring continued long into the evening in many parts of Merseyside.

The title win was achieved after some uncertainty about the season with fears, at one point, the whole campaign may have had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.
