Liverpool family lose £1.25m on Ant and Dec's Limitless Win by answering one question wrong

A mother and son were devastated to have just missed out on the UK's record-breaking television cash prize.

Troy-Francis and Tracey-Jane Beaumont, from Liverpool, were tonight's star players on ITV's Limitless Win. The show sees two players answer number-based questions with no upper max on their potential cash prize.

This means, if they consistently play a strong game, the pair can continue to grow their winnings without being restricted by the show's limitations. Troy and Jane eventually found themselves in an amazing position - with a chance of earning the biggest prize the UK has ever seen.

Before things kicked off, Troy, who spearheads his own Doctor Who podcast, received an unusual video message from his idol David Tennant. Instead of a typical heartwarming message, David scoffed back a birthday cake with Troy's face on it.

Troy and Jane proved their trivia knowledge by acing everything they were handed, progressing rather quickly up the Limitless Win ladder. As the show progressed, they moved closer and closer to leaving the show if they didn't bank their cash which they refused to do from early on.

They eventually broke the £1m line but instead of calling it a day and becoming millionaires, they were forced into a final round requiring them to respond with an exact answer. The next milestone would see them reach £1.25m, the biggest prize ever on a British game show.

Presenters Ant and Dec asked them: "How many weight divisions are there in men's professional boxing, according to the World Boxing Association?"

They locked in an incorrect answer of six instead of 17 which meant their game was over and they walked away with nothing. The mother-son tag team took it on the chin as they congratulated each other for how far they came, for breaking a UK record and holding their heads up high but bitter sweat tears started to flow as they stepped off stage.
