Liverpool family hosting a Christmas light show with music and special effects

A couple in Liverpool are putting on a Christmas light show for the whole community to enjoy over the festive period.

Helen and Martin Walsh have transformed the outside of their home with lights and decorations that people can drive past and enjoy.

It doesn’t stop there though, as their Liverpool Christmas Light Show includes music, videos and images.

The couple came up with the idea after watching a video on Facebook.

Speaking to the ECHO, Martin said: “I have always loved Christmas lights and Christmas as a whole. I’m always looking for new ways of doing things. Just before Christmas 2020, I found a video on Facebook of a whole different way of doing Christmas lights. The videos that I saw were absolutely wonderful. They had all sorts of different effects, all to music.”

Helen and Martin were able to find everything they needed from small UK companies and then got to work on planning the show and putting it all together themselves.

Helen explained: “People can expect to see lots of wonderful effects, including videos and images. There’s a whole host of music that we have done the sequences to. There is something for everyone from Christmas Baby Shark to the classic Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire by Nat King Cole.

“It’s taken around 10 months to plan everything and to do all the programming along with making the props. To set up everything outside once it had all been made took around four days while avoiding the rain.

“The total amount of lights is 14,641. There are 6,449 for the tree, arches, window frames, singing bulbs, singing tree, spinners and snowflakes. Then there are 8,192 for the two matrix panels.”

The couple are raising money for Alder Hey which you can donate to here.

Helen said: “We have always supported Alder Hey. Everyone knows the wonderful work that Alder Hey does for children from all over and we want to give something back. We also have an 8-year-old boy and Alder Hey have helped him with various things since he was born.

“We hope that people are amazed by the light show and really get into the Christmas spirit.”

The light show is taking place outside Helen and Martin’s house at 7 Palmerston Drive, Halewood, Liverpool, L25 9GD. The official switch on of the Liverpool Christmas Light Show will be on Wednesday December 1.
