Liverpool face potential December fixture pile-up as Fifa confirm Club World Cup schedule

Liverpool have finally discovered the scheduling for their participation in Fifa's Club World Cup this December.

The Reds had been left in the dark by world football's governing body over when they would be required to visit Qatar to take part in the tournament.

However, details released on Friday have shown that they will contest the first of their fixtures - a semi-final against as yet undecided opposition - on December 18.

Regardless of the outcome of that game, Jurgen Klopp’s team will next play on December 21, with both the third-place play-off and final set for that date.

Participation in the latter would offer the Reds a chance to win the trophy that has eluded them after each of their last five European Cup victories.

Liverpool's December schedule

  • December 4 - Everton (H)
  • December 7 - Bournemouth (A)
  • December 14 - Watford (H)
  • December 18 - CWC Semi-Final (A)
  • December 21 - CWC Final/3rd (A)
  • December 26 - Leicester City (A)
  • December 28 - Wolves (H)

However, Klopp may have to contend with a potential fixture pile-up as a result of his team’s involvement in the competition.

Liverpool’s trip to West Ham United on December 21 will need to be rescheduled, as would any Carabao Cup quarter-final fixture should they make it that far.
