Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain challenge as European competition return confirmed

Liverpool will entertain Paris Saint-Germain at the Academy this season after the group stages for the Premier League International Cup were confirmed.

The tournament wasn't played during the last two seasons and was cancelled during the 2019/20 campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As well as French side PSG, Liverpool U21s side have been drawn alongside Dinamo Zagreb from Croatia, German outfit Hertha Berlin and Braga of Portugal.

The Premier League International Cup is made up of 12 Premier League 2 teams and 12 invited international clubs. The group stage sees three groups of eight teams, each consisting of four English teams and four teams from abroad, with each playing four games.

All the games will be played in England, with Liverpool's Academy in Kirkby hosting all four games for Barry Lewtas's side.

They will start against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, November 9 before entertaining PSG on Wednesday, January 11 and Braga a week later. The Reds finish the group by taking on Hertha on Wednesday, February 1. All games kick-off at 7pm.

Kaide Gordon, Stefan Bajcetic, Luke Chambers and Isaac Mabaya are among those who could feature, although they could also gain European experience with the U19s as all remain eligible to play in the UEFA Youth League.

Liverpool reached the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup in 2018 and were due to take on Wolfsburg in the last eight in early March 2020 before it became one of the first games called off due to fears over the growing pandemic.
