Liverpool face double injury scare ahead of Spurs clash as key duo ruled out of Genk trip

Liverpool face a nervous wait over the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The Reds defensive duo have both been ruled out of Liverpool's midweek Champions League trip to Genk, with Alexander-Arnold suffering from a virus while Matip is nursing a sore knee.

Both players started in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, but Jurgen Klopp must wait to see whether they will both recover for the clash against Spurs on Sunday.

Liverpool have been boosted, however, as Mohamed Salad joined the travelling party which flew to Belgium.

The Egyptian missed the United game, but his return to full fitness means he is set to play against Spurs this weekend if he comes through the Champions League test unscathed.

Speaking after the match at Old Trafford, Klopp responded to a question about whether his team were frustrated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team: "It's just a fact, when we come here, this year, last year, year before, they just defend. That's how it is, that's OK, it's no criticism, it's just a fact. It's not the usual way you think United plays against Liverpool, you would think both teams are trying like this.

"Again, the quality, we are the one team everybody is on their toes when United plays against us. It's no excuse, we need to do better, we can do better, but you cannot play against each team like this, how they played today.

"We are a good team, and when we play against somebody it is normal for them to say: 'How can we stop them?'"
