Liverpool face anxious wait over fitness of key man for Tottenham clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the Reds now face a wait to determine the extent of an injury sustained by James Milner in the win against Everton.

The Reds defeated their Merseyside rivals 1-0 at Anfield, with Curtis Jones netting the only goal of the game for Liverpool.

But the Premier League leaders were given cause for concern early on in the game, with Milner forced off through injury after just nine minutes of the contest.

And Klopp admitted that it was too early to determine the severity of the muscle injury, with Liverpool now facing an anxious wait on the midfielder's fitness ahead of a trip to face Tottenham in the Premier League next weekend.

What to expect from Tottenham in the January transfer window

"Two players started the last game and one of them got injured, so that’s the situation we are in. That’s why a lot of managers make a lot of changes; it’s nothing to do with the cup, it’s the timing," Klopp said, speaking in his post-match press conference.

“[Milner] has pain, that says it’s serious. It’s [his] muscle.”

Liverpool have confirmed that Milner will now be assessed by the club's medical department to determine the extent of the injury, ahead of the game in north London on Saturday.
