Liverpool face £10m bill two years after making transfer decision

Liverpool will find out today how much they will have to pay Fulham for Harvey Elliott.

The forward, who is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, joined Liverpool in July 2019.

But Fulham have yet to see a penny from the transfer until now.

Neither of the clubs could agree a fee for the then 16-year-old, meaning the decision needed to go to a tribunal.

Elliott was a star in the Flham academy, with plans being made for him to move into the first team on a regular basis. But his performances for the Whites academy side led to interest from a number of Europe's biggest clubs - Liverpool among them.

Transfer update: How does January spending compare to previous seasons?

Because of his age, the Reds were forced to pay compensation for taking him away from Craven Cottage before he could sign his first professional deal, but the two clubs could not agree on the fee for the transfer.

And that meant the decision rested with a football tribunal.

Liverpool were reported to be willing to pay £750,000 for the winger, with Fulham looking for a fee closer to £10million for a player who was one of their prized assets.

The coronavirus outbreak put the tribunal date back, but the case is due to be heard on Tuesday, with Liverpool waiting anxiously to find out how much they will have to stump up.

Elliott made two first team appearances for the Reds before going on a season-long loan to Blackburn, for whom he has played 22 times, scoring four goals.
