LIVERPOOL: Everton missed two great chances to end a 16-match winless run against Liverpool as they drew 0-0 in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Cenk Tosun's header narrowly missed the inside of the post and sliding team-mate Seamus Coleman, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin curled over in the final few minutes of Saturday's early Premier league match.

In the first half, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved well from Dominic Solanke, partnering Danny Ings up front with Mohamed Salah injured and Roberto Firmino on the bench.

Liverpool's Loris Karius produced a spectacular save to keep out a curling effort by Yannick Bolasie. After the break, substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fired over before Everton's late rally.

The draw moves Liverpool within one point of second-place Manchester United, who visit leaders Manchester City in Saturday's late match. Everton lie ninth with 41 points.

Everton's last top-flight victory in the Merseyside derby was a 2-0 triumph in October 2010.
