Here are your Liverpool evening headlines for Saturday, 26 September.
Mane excited about Thiago’s arrival
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is thrilled to be playing alongside new signing Thiago Alcantara.
The Spanish international arrived at Anfield last Friday, before coming on against Chelsea at half-time just two days later.
Thiago completed 75 passes – the most any player has recorded in one half of a top flight game since data began to be collected in the 2003/2004 season.
Mane, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win at Chelsea, said : “I think not only our fans are excited to see Thiago.
“For sure, especially me and my teammates were really happy to have this kind of quality in our squad.
“It only makes us better.”
Liverpool man still on Blades’ wanted list
Rhian Brewster remains top of Sheffield United’s transfer targets as the Blades look to secure a permanent transfer for the Liverpool youngster before the window closes next month.
United manager Chris Wilder explained that no transfer is guaranteed to happen , with the Bramall Lane club stalling on a deal for the striker.
He said on Friday that “things need to happen from a negotiations point of view above me” if any transfer was to get over the line.
Alisson: “Premier League level is higher this season”
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has addressed the team’s dip in form at the end of last season following the affirmation of their Premier League title victory.
Jurgen Klopp’s men only collected 17 points from their final nine games after lockdown, fewer than both Manchester teams, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Southampton.
“We know that we dropped a little bit, we don’t know why,” Alisson told Sky Sports .
“It wasn’t something we wanted to do, but we knew we had to go back to our path if we want to be competitive this season for the title, because I believe this season the level is higher.
“It’s just the beginning of the season, we had a difficult game against Leeds, it was an open game where anything can happen.
“It was 4-3 and a good game for anyone who is watching football, but a really hard game to play.”
