Liverpool evening headlines as Naby Keita plan detailed and Pep Guardiola's Man City warning

Here are your Liverpool evening headlines for Wednesday, February 10.

Jurgen Klopp pays tribute after death of his mother

Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to his mother who has died aged 81. Klopp was unable to attend her funeral on Tuesday in person due to coronavirus travel restrictions in Germany.

Klopp said that he and the family will commemorate her at a later date when it is safe to do so.

"She meant everything to me," said the Reds boss. "She was a real mum in the best sense of the word.

"As a devout Christian, I know she is in a better place now."

In an interview with German news outlet Schwarzwälder Bote, he added: "As soon as the circumstances allow, we will hold a wonderful commemoration."

Naby Keita can reinvigorate midfield

Liverpool's midfield can be reinvigorated by the imminent return of Naby Keita.

Keita has been a source of great injury frustrating during his time at Liverpool. This season, he has made just seven starts and has not featured since Liverpool's 7-0 win over Crystal Palace in which he was instrumental.

The Guinea international is now nearing a return, just as Liverpool's midfield is in need of a spark.

Thiago Alcantara has not yet reached his Bayern Munich heights, while Gini Wijnaldum is beginning to feel the physical effects of having started almost every game this season.

With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson moonlighting as centre-backs and goals difficult to come by, never has Klopp needed Keita more than now.

Pep Guardiola's Liverpool warning

Pep Guardiola has warned his Manchester City players that they must remain vigilant as things can change very quickly, using Liverpool's dramatic downturn in home form as an example.

Liverpool had not lost in 68 matches at Anfield in the league. They have now lost their last three, including Sunday's 4-1 defeat to City.

And Guardiola believes that such a swift end to a dominant run is motivation for his City players to avoid complacency as they continue their onslaught on the Premier League title.

"It’s not difficult because we know when we anticipate the future quite quickly, sports shows you in the past how it is going to punish you for that," he said.

"This is a simple example of what I’ve seen. Liverpool remains one of the best teams I’ve seen in my life and were able to make an incredible run of 68 games at home unbeaten - destroying, winning by big margins, winning in the last minutes - for three seasons without one defeat. Then immediately, you don't know why, three defeats in a row.

"Do you think it cannot happen with us? Of course it can happen. It can happen in one week and you can lose three or four games immediately after an unbeaten run."

On City's season and the need to finish strong, he added: "Two or three months ago we were out of everything: we didn't have any chance to be champions, to qualify for the Champions League yet now we are ready.

"We are ready, so maybe we shouldn’t play any more games in the Premier League because we are already champions.

"I don't understand why we have to play against Tottenham and after against Everton? I don't understand it because we are already champions."
