Liverpool evening headlines as Lionel Messi surprise transfer debated

Here are your Liverpool evening headlines for Wednesday, August 26.

Liverpool and Messi transfer explored

Lionel Messi’s demand to leave the Camp Nou in this transfer window may not immediately lead to any questions of a move to Anfield.

But the Barcelona superstar has felt the full force of Anfield before and his obsession to win the Champions League does count in Liverpool’s favour.

As Paul Gorst writes , the Argentine’s contract situation will heavily influence the clubs that can sign him in the event that he successfully forces his way out of the Camp Nou.

Liverpool will be behind the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the running for securing Messi’s signature. But if there’s anything that football has taught us in the last few months, it is that you can’t rule anything out.

Brewster sent loan warning by former Premier League striker

Rhian Brewster further impressed the Liverpool hierarchy with two goals against Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday.

The youngster made it three goals from his last two pre-season appearances with the first team which has led to questions over whether Jurgen Klopp should introduce him into the senior squad this season.

Amid reports that Tottenham are interested in signing Brewster on loan, former Spurs striker Darren Bent believes that he needs guaranteed minutes on the pitch.

He told Football Insider : “You’re messing around with Brewster’s development.

“He can’t be somebody who sits on the bench.

"I would wait and see what happens and go somewhere where he could progress and play.

“I do like what Mourinho’s doing, but I’m just a bit nervous about him not getting enough game time.

“Someone like [Harry] Kane, we’ve seen he has a lot of injuries but at the same time we can’t say that’s going to be the case.”

Your Liverpool transfer questions on Messi and Thiago

There was a point earlier this year where it was expected to be a relatively quiet transfer window.

But even if you just take the last 24 hours, for example, it has proven to be anything but that with Chelsea doing business and Lionel Messi telling Barcelona he wants to leave.

Liverpool, too, tie into many transfer stories in some way as shown by today’s transfer questions on the ECHO’s live blog with LFC correspondent Paul Gorst.

From Thiago Alcantara to Lionel Messi and Ben White, the Reds could still be impacted by transfer business before the season starts.

Here are your Liverpool transfer questions answered on those topics.
