Good evening, Liverpool fans. Here are your evening headlines for Sunday, August 9.
Liverpool move for Olympiakos left-back
Anfield could be set for a new arrival in the coming days, with Liverpool closing in on a deal for Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas .
The 24-year-old was part of the Olympiakos side who held Tottenham Hotspur to a draw in this season’s Champions League and went on to eliminate Arsenal from the Europa League.
He is set to be competition for Andy Robertson at left-back and an £11.75 million fee is said to have been settled upon with talks at an advanced stage .
This comes after Liverpool put to bed their interest in Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis whose price-tag was deemed too high at £20 million.
Woodburn attracting interest from foreign clubs
Liverpool midfielder Ben Woodburn is a transfer target for a handful of foreign sides this summer.
The Reds expect to loan the Welsh international out once again, with the likes of newly-relegated Fortuna Dusseldorf interested in his services.
The German outfit – now in the second tier – are coached by former Manchester City man Uwe Rosler, who has managed throughout the English Football League with Brentford, Wigan Athletic and Leeds United.
Woodburn impressed during the 2019/20 campaign while on loan at League One Oxford United and clubs in the Netherlands, Belgium and also closer to home in the EFL have all been credited with an interest.
It is unlikely Woodburn will be in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the 2020/21 season, but the Reds are intent on finding the right club and the right fit for the 20-year-old.
Klopp on tearful title win
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has recounted the evening which ended the club’s 30-year wait for a domestic title in a recent LFCTV documentary.
“You have no idea how it will feel before it happens. It was pure joy! Massive relief in the next second and then I started crying. So I went and called Ulla [his wife],” Klopp said of the moment Chelsea’s victory over Manchester City was confirmed, handing the title to Liverpool.
In the documentary: Golden Sky: Klopp’s Champions , the German describes the evening as one of the best moments he has experienced in football. He details the joy and jubilation felt by the entire squad who celebrated the victory together at a private event.
