Liverpool evening headlines as Jurgen Klopp gives Thiago Alcantara, Alisson Becker and Joel Matip injury news

Here are your Liverpool headlines for the evening of Friday, October 23.

Liverpool defender in line for return next week

Kostas Tsimikas is set to return to training next week as Liverpool face an intense period in their schedule.

The Greek defender suffered a thigh injury in the 7-2 Carabao Cup win over Lincoln City last month and has not featured in a matchday squad since.

Tsimikas, who arrived at Anfield from Olympiacos in the summer transfer window, will miss out against Sheffield United this weekend, but is poised to return to training next week.

Virgil van Dijk will be sidelined for the home game against the Blades, but Joel Matip could be available again, as indicated by Jurgen Klopp before the 1-0 Champions League win over Ajax.

Rhian Brewster at ‘forefront’ of Sheffield United boss’ thoughts ahead of Anfield return

Rhian Brewster could be in line for a start against his former club, according to Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

The 20-year-old made the £23.5million switch to Bramall Lane from Liverpool in the summer transfer window despite being hailed as one of the best young talents to have come through Anfield in years.

Brewster made his Blades debut off the bench against Fulham last weekend and Wilder has revealed the young forward could start against Liverpool on Saturday evening.

“His natural ability and talent is there to be seen by everybody,” Wilder said (as per the Independent ), also highlighting Brewster is “at the forefront of our thinking” and has “been bright and bubbly and is definitely in our thoughts to start.”

Liverpool boss to give injured trio chance to feature against Sheffield United

Jurgen Klopp will give Thiago Alcantara, Alisson Becker and Joel Matip every chance to feature for Liverpool against Sheffield United this weekend.

The trio missed the Reds’ 1-0 away win over Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday evening through injury, but Klopp remains hopeful they could feature in some capacity against the Blades.

“Apart from Ox and Virg and maybe Kostas, who gets closer and closer but is not at all in contention for this game or the next one, all the others we have to see day by day, pretty much,” the Liverpool manager said.

“There are a lot of conversations with the medical department about who it makes sense (to play) and for who it is too early. That’s the time we are in with the games we have. If somebody is injured for two weeks that could mean being out for five games even if it’s not a serious injury.

“I don’t know at this moment who will be available. My last information is the boys who played the other night are all fine, they are okay. The rest we will see.”
