Liverpool evening headlines as Jordan Henderson gives sneak peek into squad

Here are your Liverpool headlines for the evening of Thursday July 23

Jordan Henderson provides inside track on Liverpool teammates

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has provided the inside track on what his teammates are really like, revealing all about the players who ended the club’s 30-year wait for a league title.

Speaking to Paul Gorst, Henderson opened the door to the Anfield dressing room, not just praising Liverpool’s current squad as players, but as people too.

“Yes, they are good footballers but are they good people and do they want to improve? Do they want to get better? Do they want to work hard?” Henderson said exclusively in the ECHO .

“That is why this team is good and so consistent. And it is why we have been together for a good couple of years now.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold opens up on ‘turning point’ for Liverpool

Liverpool full back Trent Alexander-Arnold has opened up on what the “turning point” was for Liverpool in their development from nearly men to champions of England and Europe.

Speaking exclusively to the ECHO , Alexander-Arnold referenced how the disappointment experienced in the 2018 Champions League final pushed the Reds to become an even better team, something they achieved in the two seasons that followed.

“For us, the turning point probably was Kiev,” the full back said. “That was when we turned from a naive team, to one that knew how exactly to win games. So I think in Kiev, that taught us how to win games. We all walked away from that going into next season learning the best lessons we could.

“We all needed that loss, which is something that happens all the time. You need to make mistakes to learn what you need to improve on. It was the worst night of our lives but looking back, it was the best lesson we could have ever learned.”

Jurgen Klopp makes good on promise to Liverpool youngster

Jurgen Klopp stuck to the word he’d given Liverpool teenager Harvey Elliott as he picked up a Premier League winners’ medal on Wednesday night.

Premier League rules state a player must make five appearances over the course of a season to be awarded a winners’ medal, with Klopp stating his intention to make sure nobody in his squad failed to cross the threshold.

“I would rather we think about the rule again and make it so if you play one game you get a medal,” Klopp said. “If they play, they should have a medal to be honest and not have to play five games. I am not sure who came up with that idea but I don't think it is a good rule.

“They can have my medal but it is not really the right rule. What is that? We have to win football games and it is not about that. we cannot just give the appearances away here and there.

“But if they deserve a medal they will get a medal, if not from the Premier League then from me.”

Elliott posted a picture to his Instagram account on Wednesday night showing his winners’ medal with the caption “An absolute dream come true!”
