Liverpool evening headlines as Jamal Lewis price set and Takumi Minamino conversations revealed

Here are your evening Liverpool headlines for Wednesday August 5.

Firmino outlines what he hopes to see from Minamino

Roberto Firmino has outlined his high hopes for January signing Takumi Minamino ahead of next season.

Minamino has made 10 Premier League appearances since signing from Red Bull Salzburg in January but is perhaps yet to find his feet at Anfield.

According to Firmino, the Japan international will thrive next season after somewhat of an adjustment period since moving to the Premier League.

Firmino told Fox Sports Asia, cited here : “Minamino is a very, very good person… I like his quality and his personality.

“It’s good because I can speak with him in German. He can speak good German and me too.

“He’s a very good player and I think he will be very good for us, for the team.”

Manchester City’s Gundogan reveals text messages with Klopp following title win

Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that he directly contacted Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s Premier League title win back in June.

The German international had previously worked with Klopp during his time at Borussia Dortmund and he recently revealed how he reached out to the Liverpool boss to congratulate him.

He told Bild, via Sport Witness : “Of course, I like him very much and had great years with him at Borussia Dortmund.

“I congratulated him right after the championship and he later sent me a few smileys back.

"I don’t know exactly what the alcohol level was at the moment, but I assume that he was happy!"

Lewis transfer interest explained

Liverpool are interested in signing highly rated Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis in this summer’s transfer window.

The ECHO understands that the Reds are interested in bringing the defender to Anfield with Klopp keen on a £10million transfer for the Canaries full-back.

However, Norwich want closer to £20m for the 19-year-old.

Any chance of seeing Lewis in a Liverpool shirt is likely to depend on how willing he is to play second fiddle to Andy Robertson who is widely considered the best left-back in world football right now.

That issue shows how Liverpool will need to navigate a difficult transfer window in terms of signing players without any guarantees of minutes on the pitch.
