Liverpool evening headlines as FSG urged to sign Erling Haaland and Sadio Mane explains target

Here are the Liverpool evening headlines on Sunday, March 14.

Mane opens up on Reds' target

Sadio Mane has insisted Liverpool will "never give up" on finishing inside the top four, but has admitted their main target is to win the Champions League.

After just 12 points from their last 14 games, the Reds are now in eighth place in the Premier League table.

The champions of England are still in the Champions League, however, after beating RB Leipzig 4-0 over two legs to progress into the quarter-finals.

Mane insisted Liverpool will not give up in their fight to get into the top four, saying: "In our heads, we always believe 'never give up' - and we won't give up.

"The human being in us will never give up. As a football player 'never give up' should be your first expression. It is my expression.

"Our target was to win the league. At the same time, if you are not winning and Manchester City is flying to win every single game, to win it is very complicated. So we will try to do everything possible to be in the top four."

The Senegal winger then went on to explain how European success is the side's main aim between now and the end of the season.

"Being in the top four right now is our main target, but to win the Champions League is our main, main target.

"It won't be easy because we are going to face the best teams in Europe, but we are here to beat the best in the world.

"We will do everything possible to go for it and to win the Champions League."

Shaqiri convinced over Klopp

Xherdan Shaqiri is convinced Jurgen Klopp can guide Liverpool to success once again.

Since the turn of the year, the Reds have been in woeful form in the Premier League and have seen their title defence shatter in front of them.

There have been whispers regarding Klopp 's future, but Shaqiri is adamant he's the right man to take the champions back to the summit of English football.

"Every team can have its ups and downs - we are human beings," the Reds attacker said to Sky Sports. "But we try to stay calm. I am pretty sure that we are going to get back to winning.

"We speak a lot together and the coach gives us the right directions.

"I don't want to tell everyone what is said in our dressing room but we are speaking a lot and we know we have to come back stronger and give what he wants on the pitch. We have to stay positive.

"We just need to improve performances and then I am sure we can succeed again. This club has to be successful. It has to be at the top."

Murphy makes Haaland claim

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has told his old club that they must break the bank to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

There has been some criticism aimed towards Roberto Firmino, with many believing the Reds need a natural striker.

Haaland is perhaps the most sought-after talent in European football at the moment after an incredible 12 months for Dortmund.

Murphy, speaking to the Daily Mail, has explained that Liverpool need to recruit well in the summer in order to challenge for the Premier League title once again.

"Recruitment is going to be vital for Liverpool in the next window and for me it’s acceptable if Jurgen Klopp wants to be proactive and start emphasising what he needs," he said.

"Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Jota are a fantastic quartet but Liverpool need a top-line No 9 to become a goal machine again.

"If Erling Haaland is available, why not be ambitious and try to break the bank for him? His arrival wouldn’t make Firmino redundant, just give Liverpool more options."
