Liverpool evening headlines as Fernando Torres explains why 'cold' Chelsea left him missing Anfield

Good evening, Liverpool fans. Here are your evening headlines for Tuesday, September 15.

Torres missed Liverpool warmth after joining Chelsea

Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has discussed the differences of playing for the Reds and for Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The World Cup winner was speaking to talkSPORT as he continues on a promotional tour of his new Netflix documentary which will be released this week, with Liverpool the main theme of the discussion.

Torres joined the Reds in 2007 from Atletico Madrid but left for Chelsea in 2011 in less than ideal circumstances despite the Reds receiving a fee of £50million.

Torres' decision to move on was motivated by a desire for silverware, and achieved that with a 2012 Champions League win.

However, the Spaniard admits he never found the same warmth at Chelsea that he had become accustomed to at Liverpool.

“Liverpool was the peak of my career. I arrived in a new city and didn’t speak English,” Torres told talkSPORT.

“Everybody liked me so much from the first day. I spent three and half years with the club. Only happy times, scored goals and won the European Championship with Spain.

“The relationship with fans and players was similar to Atletico Madrid. The players and supporters are really close, and this is what I needed.”

Torres continued: “Liverpool was a huge club, though. But inside it was like a small family. From the workers and gardeners and the cooks. You could meet them every day.

"Chelsea was a huge structure, it was a bit more cold. It was still being built and everything was new."

Chelsea star Werner drops major Liverpool hint

Timo Werner has suggested he will play through the pain to face Liverpool this weekend.

The German international lasted the full 90 minutes during Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Brighton on Monday but was seen with ice strapped to his leg during a post-match interview.

The former RB Leipzig man was heavily linked to Liverpool this summer, and it was expected he’d make Anfield home only for him to end up at Stamford Bridge.

The two sides meet at the weekend, and it would seem that Werner is desperate to play.

“It (the leg injury) was from the penalty,” he admitted. “The knee of the goalkeeper hit me directly in the muscle, and it went very hard.

"For the rest of the game, it hurt a lot, and I couldn’t do some movements because the muscle went very hard, but at the end, I’m happy that we won.”

Minamino sends a message as Shaqiri returns

Takumi Minamino gave Jurgen Klopp a timely reminder of his goalscoring prowess by netting in a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town’s B-team at Anfield on Sunday.

The Japan international, an unused substitute against Leeds, struck on the stroke of half time to continue his good form since returning for pre-season.

Xherdan Shaqiri also featured in the game as he continued to recover from injury.

The Swiss international has managed just seven first-team minutes since January 11 and missed all three pre-season friendlies, the Community Shield, and the win against Leeds on Saturday evening.
