Liverpool evening headlines as BBC pundit slams Jurgen Klopp and Reds get full Philippe Coutinho fee

Here are your Liverpool evening headlines on Tuesday, December 22.

Crooks slams Klopp decision

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has slammed Jurgen Klopp's decision to take Sadio Mane off in Liverpool 's 7-0 victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Mane was visibly angered after being replaced by Mohamed Salah with around half an hour of the match remaining.

Crooks now has warned Klopp that his decision could have an impact on the Senegal international's future at Anfield.

The pundit said in his BBC Sport column : "A note of caution for Klopp: don't mess Sadio Mane around. He's been the Reds' best forward for over a season and if Klopp is going to substitute him, especially when he's in such fine goalscoring mood, he needs to let him know well in advance.

"Watching Mane come off muttering his frustrations isn't a good look and Klopp is deluding himself if he thinks such things don't matter. And he should never think for one minute that the big European clubs aren't watching his every move."

Reds' offer accepted for Blues youngster

Liverpool have had an offer accepted by Birmingham City for their youngster Calum Scanlon.

The 15-year-old has represented England at under-15 level, and can play either at left-back or in midfield.

Scanlon's family are now deciding whether a move to the Reds would be the best switch for his development, the ECHO understands.

Klopp has previously, and very recently, shown a lot of faith in the Academy players - with a host of young talent getting opportunities in Liverpool's first-team.

Most recently, Rhys Williams, Caoimhin Kelleher and Nat Phillips have all been handed opportunities due to the Reds' injury woes.

Liverpool bank full Coutinho fee

Liverpool have now banked the full £142m transfer fee for Barcelona's signing of Philippe Coutinho back in January 2018.

Coutinho made the big-money fee from the Reds to Barca almost three years ago now, in a deal which made the Brazil star the third most expensive player in history at the time.

The deal made between the two parties was worth £142m - with an initial £106m being paid up front, with the rest (£36m) in add-ons.

Back in August, Liverpool were just £4.4m away from receiving the full fee for their former playmaker from Barcelona and it was understood that the rest of the payment was due to be with the Merseyside-based club when Barca met certain appearances-based milestones.

Reports in Spain are indicating that the Reds could be set for another £18m from the Catalan giants, if Coutinho reaches 100 games for the club.
