Liverpool eclipse 125 year record with West Ham victory

Liverpool smashed a 125-year-old club record with victory against West Ham at the London Stadium.

The Reds had beaten all of the 18 sides they had faced in the Premier League prior to Wednesday night –  with the only team they had yet to play, and therefore yet to be afforded an opportunity to beat, being the Hammers.

Originally they were supposed face off with David Moyes' side on December 21, however, the match was rescheduled because of Liverpool's Club World Cup exploits.

A first-half penalty from Mo Salah and 52nd minute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain strike were enough to see the Londoners and rack up Liverpool's 23rd Premier League win of the season (as many victories as Leicester City got in the whole of their 2015/16 title campaign) in only their 24th game, taking the Reds on to 70 points for the season, 19 clear of closest challenger Manchester City.

The last time the current European champions beat every league side they faced in a season was in 1895/96 in the second-tier.
