Liverpool EasyJet flight declares emergency moments before it's due to land

An EasyJet flight declared an emergency above the skies of Liverpool moments before it was due to land.

The EZY7194 from Faro in Spain to Liverpool was forced to land earlier than scheduled when it called in a 'squawk 7700' emergency.

An early descent was made to Liverpool John Lennon Airport when a passenger became unwell onboard.

The plane had departed from Faro at 10:02am and was due to land at 1:05pm but was given priority after the 7700.

A spokesperson for EasyJet said: "EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY7194 from Faro to Liverpool requested an expedited landing into Liverpool due to a passenger being taken unwell during landing.

"Paramedics met the aircraft on arrival and assisted.

"The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is EasyJet’s highest priority."

What is a 'squawk 7700' emergency?

This can cover a huge variety of things and given the thousands of flights that take to the skies each day, there is always bound to be few.

Most of the time the problems are resolved on flight or by an emergency landing.

Flight tracking website FlightRadar24 spoke to a pilot about these messages and they said: "In most 'emergencies', we aren’t in a big hurry. Unless it’s smoke, fire, or low on fuel, we can usually take our time to evaluate the problem."
