It's a season few at Liverpool will wish to dwell on for too long.
But two of Jurgen Klopp's squad are hoping for confirmation it will be extended later today.
Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will discover at 1pm this afternoon whether or not they have made England's provisional extended squad for next month's delayed Euro 2020 finals.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate had initially been expected to finalise his 26-man squad for the competition only to change his mind given the number of England players involved in this week's Champions League and Europa League finals.
Henderson hasn't featured for Liverpool since suffering a groin injury in February but returned to full training last week and was on the bench for Sunday's Premier League finale at home to Crystal Palace.
Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, was a shock omission from England's last squad for their World Cup qualifiers in March, with Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James all preferred in the right-back slot.
Southgate subsequently challenged the Liverpool man - who featured at the 2018 World Cup - to prove he should regain his berth, with Alexander-Arnold since producing a series of outstanding performances, including a dramatic winner against Aston Villa and a man-of-the-match outing at Manchester United in front of the watching England boss.
However, the suggestion remains Chelsea-affiliated members of the England coaching staff have long advocated James as the preferred third right-back.
Henderson could benefit from being one of the three "extra" places in the squad, with further time to prove his fitness before squads must be confirmed with UEFA on June 1.
England play warm-up matches against Austria on June 2 and Romania four days later before starting their Euro 2020 campaign against Croatia at Wembley on June 13.
Joe Gomez has long been ruled out of the Euros with a serious knee injury picked up while training with his country in November.
And if Henderson and Alexander-Arnold don't make the final cut, it will be the first England squad at a major tournament not to have representation from Liverpool since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The 1954 World Cup is the only other time this has happened.
Diogo Jota (Portugal), Andy Robertson (Scotland) and Thiago Alcantara (Spain) will all feature at the finals while Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland), Neco Williams (Wales), Ozan Kabak (Turkey) and Gini Wijnaldum (Holland) are all in the preliminary squads of their respective countries.
