Liverpool duo return from injury in behind-closed-doors friendly

Paul Glatzel and Abdi Sharif have handed Liverpool under-23s a major boost by both returning from injury.

The duo returned to action after lengthy absences when starting the 3-1 friendly win over Salford City on Tuesday afternoon.

Glatzel, who has been out since injuring ankle ligaments against Southampton in November, played the opening hour before being replaced.

Sharif, meanwhile, made his first appearance since December and was substituted midway through the second half.

Barry Lewtas's side trailed at the break but drew level through Joe Hardy on 63 minutes before substitute Layton Stewart gave them the lead.

Billy Koumetio completed the scoring after a scramble from a corner.

“It was a good workout for us and we scored some really good goals," said Lewtas, speaking to liverpoolfc.com.

“It was great to see Paul and Abdi back and they will take a lot from that. Tony Gallacher got some minutes after his ankle injury, so it was great to see him back.

“Joe Hardy played his first 90 minutes for a while and scored, so that’s pleasing.”

Liverpool U23s are next in Premier League 2 action at home to Arsenal on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
